APEC was founded as an Illinois 501(c)6 not-for-profit association following a series of eight roundtable meetings in Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri.  Roundtable participants included commercial, industrial and institutional energy consumers as well as local, state and federal government representatives, energy consultants, vendors, and other professionals concerned about energy issues. 

Their main concerns were to:

• Develop a reliable, regional resource of unbiased energy information and 
• Assist energy users in making the proper energy decisions. 

Since 1994, APEC has been a positive force for those doing business within the energy industry of Illinois.  APEC is dedicated to providing objective information in the energy marketplace and has continuing credibility as a resource for members and energy consumers.
