The members of APEC have joined together to raise funds to provide small grants to worthy energy projects and students. The goals of the APEC Energy Affiliate Fund are to:
- Increase public awareness of the importance and value of energy efficiency
- Advance energy conservation and energy-related technology and practice
Funds may be granted for either:
- Projects associated with energy conservation and other energy-related projects
- Scholarships for formal programs of training or study related to energy and energy conservation
Grants are typically small--$1,000 or less--and awarded on an annual basis.
No portion of the grants may be used for indirect costs or overhead. 100% of the grant must go to the student as a scholarship award or toward direct project costs.
Sample grants include:
- $1,000 for the Black Hawk College Electric-Powered Car Competition
- $1,000 for energy efficiency upgrades to a house built by Habitat for Humanity volunteers
- $1,000 for a wind energy workshop for science teachers working for the Erie, Illinois school district
